Preliminary rounds will take place on Dec. 2nd & 3rd with Finals on Saturday, December 4th. Both the preliminary and final rounds will take place at the Semitone Institute of Music in Arcadia, CA. The presence of an audience at the finals will depend on current COVID restrictions at the time of the event.
There will be grand prize winners in the instrumental and opera categories and winners will be invited to appear in a regular season concert during the 2022-23 season. The winners will also receive an honorarium of $500 at the time of performance. The decision of the judges will be final.
For instrumental applicants, a full concerto from the standard repertoire is required (memorization preferred). For singers, please prepare three contrasting arias from the standard opera repertoire. You must bring your own accompanist to the preliminary and final rounds. If you would like to change repertoire before the competition, you do not have to contact us. Please bring one copy of a piano or solo score to the preliminary and final rounds. Recent past winners and finalists of the Burbank Philharmonic Hennings-Fischer competition have included Sopranos Julie Adams and Angela Meade; Violinists Nigel Armstrong, Aubree Oliverson, Heidi & Alexis Hatch and Qiaorong Ma; and cellist Keith Williams.
